The Australian Orangutang Project
Just recently Sylvan Springs donated some wine to The Australian Orangutang Project's fundraising movie night, where there was a special screening of the new documentry "The Last Trimate" narrated by Mel Gibson. The special screening was aimed to raise awareness of the danger the Orangutangs are facing due to their rainforest habitat disappearing at a rapid rate. The biggest threats are unsustainable permanent agriculture in the form of palm oil plantations, legal and illegal logging practices. Gold mining and the illegal animal trade have also been a significant factor in the deline of the wild Orangutang population. The Australian Orangutang Project (AOP) is the Australian contribution to international efforts to save the great apes. AOP is a non-profit organisation with a mission to ensure the survival of both the critically endangered Sumartran and endangered Bornean Orangutangs.
The screening was a huge sucess in makeing everyone more aware of the issues the Orangutangs are facing. Sylvan Springs was happy to give everyone at the screening complimentry glasses of wine to show our support for such a great cause.
