Sylvan Springs donated wine to The Australian Orangutan
Project's fundraising movie night, for the special
screening of the new documentary "The Last Trimate" narrated by
Mel Gibson. This special screening was aimed to raise awareness
of the danger the Orangutans are facing due to their rainforest
habitat disappearing at a rapid rate. The biggest threats are
unsustainable permanent agriculture in the form of palm oil
plantations, legal and illegal logging practices. Gold mining
and the illegal animal trade have also been a significant factor
in the decline of the wild Orangutan population. The Australian
Orangutan Project (AOP) is the Australian contribution to
international efforts to save the great apes. AOP is a
non-profit organisation with a mission to ensure the survival of
both the critically endangered Sumatran and endangered Bornean
Orangutans.
The screening was a huge success in making everyone more aware
of the issues the Orangutans are facing. Sylvan Springs was
happy to give everyone at the screening complimentary glasses of
wine to show our support for such a great cause.
